The Chickamauga Nation is facing a grave threat: the planned construction of a 3,000-bed prison facility on our ancestral lands in Franklin County, Arkansas. These lands are more than soil and stone—they are sacred resting places of our people, holding what appear to be remnants of stone box graves, similar to those found on nearby properties.

This is not just a local issue. This is a matter of cultural preservation, legal rights, and human dignity.

Why This Matters

These burial grounds are sacred. Disturbing them for development dishonors the memory and sovereignty of our ancestors. We must protect these places where our history rests.

⚖️ Legal Rights
We are actively working to enforce the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) to prevent desecration and ensure the rightful return and protection of Native American remains and cultural items.
