Letter From Chief Flanagan to AR Senator Bryan King 8/25/2025
Representatives of The Chickamauga Nation would like to meet with the Governor and the Board of Corrections to discuss the future plans for the intended prison property.
Good morning Senator King,
We are grateful for your ongoing support as well as your staunch opposition to the prison in Franklin County.
Representatives of The Chickamauga Nation would like to meet with the Governor and the Board of Corrections to discuss the future plans for the intended prison property. I assume that plans have changed of late due to the painfully obvious fact that this is not a good location for this project. The lack of the availability of water that was discovered recently should drive that fact home.
The Chickamauga Nation still has a great interest in this property as it is very likely home to ancestral burials, it is also surrounded by cemeteries with Chickamauga graves present.
Furthermore, the majority of houses surrounding the site are occupied by members of our tribe.
These combined factors are why this area will be a place of interest as long as it is in the State’s possession.
I am writing you this email in hopes that you may be able to facilitate a meeting between us, the Governor, and the BOC.
Thank you again,
Justin Flanagan
Western Region Medal Chief
The Chickamauga Nation
